Electrical Regulations

From 1 January 2005 only a qualified Electrician can carry out electrical works, supervise trainees and carry out testing with Certificates.

After 31 lMarch 2006 the single phased installation colours of red phase and black neutral are replaced b

y brown phase and blue neutral, respectively. these are the colours that have been used in appliance flexible cables for many years.

Important Notice

The new law introduced in January 2005 allows only qualified Electricians holding a current 16th IEE Regulations City and Guilds qualification may carry out electrical works providing the firm is registered with a governing body such as NICEIC including part P registration or ECA.

A qualified electrician can oversee the supervision of trainees and a Qualified Manager with one of the governing bodies to test full/part installations, both new and old, for the purpose of issuing Testing Certificates.
